Simulation is the representation of a real situation by which experiments and industrial processes can be illustrated,concepts and principles can be demonstrated.While modelling by using ICT enable students to explore the effect of changing data or variables and relationships of physical system in the situation presented.i found that both of this ICT applications brings benefit for teacher in bringing students for better understanding on the phenomena involved.
As i go through the task of finding simulation and modelling l to be represented in class ,i realised that it is quite confusing for me to determine which one is simulation and which one is the modelling.But as i go through the discussion with Dr Sophia during the presentation session, i realised that both of this application brings the same aim and benefit for the teaching and learning session.
For example, simulation and modelling can make all those invisible thing to visible. As in the our simulation on ‘structure and working on stomata’ we able to show the entire class the exact location of the stomata.We also can show the uptake or releasing gas which can’t be measured or seen by the naked eye.There are also many type of simulation which you can touch on the screen (if you are using IWB) and it will zoom out all the structure of the unseen object and need to be ilustrated.To make it more incredible we ,some of simulation have the clear voice instruction followed by guiding text for the information to be communicated better.Therefore,simulation and modelling is one of the most effective way for teacher to make their pupils understand about the information they tried to give.
Some of the experiment takes time and effort to be done.There are also dangerous experiment which cannot be run by student.Simulation helps to illustrate this kind of experiment in a better way.Added to the benefit is the special characteristic of modelling.Teacher can enhance their student understanding by manipulating the variables in the modelling and let the student predict the possible answer. Colourful animations and many special feature of simulations and modelling is believed to be the attraction for the students.This definitely a bonus for teacher who know how to use the benefit of this application well.
